We have loved working with Brent Herrig of Brent Herrig Photography. Brent's images are featured in Shop The Pantry, on our Homepage, and for many of our Cooking Classes. The remainder of images are taken by Haven's Kitchen staff and Nicole Franzen unless otherwise noted.
Our classes are meant for the home cook and non-cook alike. We are not a culinary school for professional chefs, but a place for our guests to reacquaint themselves with the pleasures of eating and entertaining. They are recreational in the sense that we want the kitchen to become a place that is fun, full of enjoyment, and free of fear. Our classes are meant to educate, as well as remind our guests how wonderful it is to prepare a meal from scratch and enjoy it with others.
Every class includes friendly and enthusiastic instruction from a knowledgeable and accomplished chef or culinary instructor, along with a full meal with wine, and coffee or cocktails when appropriate. A Haven’s Kitchen gift, often a tote bag, is also included in your registration. We will e-mail out recipes as well as contact information for the chef should you have any other questions after the class.
Classes may have hands-on instruction, limited hands-on instruction, or may be structured as an informal lecture. These differences will be noted in the class description. We want everyone to engage in the class to whatever degree makes them most comfortable, but always encourage moving beyond your comfort zone in the kitchen once in a while!
Please be mindful that our kitchen is not nut, egg, dairy, or gluten free – if you have a severe allergy to something, don’t take the risk. If you do have a specific allergy or dietary restriction, please let us know in the comment section of your registration. Our chef instructors will do their best to cater to your dietary restrictions, however we cannot guarantee that you will be able to eat every item prepared in class. Our chefs will also be more than willing to offer you any advice on swapping out ingredients for when you are cooking at home.
Nowhere! We don’t decide the menus of our classes very far in advance for a couple of reasons. We want our chefs to be shopping the green market for inspiration, and pass that story on to our guests. We are not big fans of strict menus and recipes, and hope that our guests feel excited to visit their local farmer’s market to buy produce that is in season, and feel confident using techniques from class to create a new and exciting dish that is all your own.
If you are deciding whether or not to sign up for a class exclusively based on the menu, try and giving us a call a few days before class and we might have some intel for you.
Our age minimum for classes at Haven’s Kitchen is 16, unless a program is specifically geared towards children, such as any “Cooking with Kids” topics. Students between the ages of 16 and 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone that is also registered for class. Please also be mindful that class topics that mention alcohol in the title may be inappropriate for our under-21 guests.
You will receive a 15% discount on your entire order if you purchase 5 or more classes. This can be 5 seats to one class, or 1 seat in 5 different classes, etc. If you want to register a large group for a class, a private class might be a better solution. Please view our Private Events Page for more information on private classes.
Haven’s Kitchen does not issue refunds for cancellations. If you would like to reschedule a class, please let us know within three days of class to receive a direct transfer into another class or Haven’s Kitchen credit, which can be used for retail purchases or class registrations. Within three days of class, we cannot honor a cancellation. However, we are happy to welcome a friend in your place.
