When it comes to fine dining, Japanese restaurants are virtually synonymous with discipline and craft— but when it comes to Japanese home cooking, flavors are just as delightful as they are comforting (not to mention light, nourishing, and full of umami). Taught by Reverend Masami Asao, dietician and head of Akasaka Teran, a Buddhist vegetarian cooking school located within the 17th-century Jokokuji Temple in Tokyo, students will learn to prepare the types of nostalgic, staple flavors which Japan keeps close to the heart.

Class will be taught with a Japanese interpreter.

Sample Menu:

Sake-Steamed Cod with Vegetables

Cucumber and Seaweed with Sweetened Vinegar

String Beans with Sesame and Miso Paste

Miso Soup

Japanese Pickles
