BBQ Pork Char Siu

Char siu is a Cantonese roast pork dish that's marinated in a sweet BBQ sauce and then roasted. We have zero claims on authenticity here, but we do get close (ish) to the flavors by adding a few flavors to our Tangy BBQ sauce...and the meat does come out tender and caramelized.

Chef Tip: You are marinating this one overnight...so if you're planning tonight's dinner, this isn't it. But, we do think it should be tomorrow night's dinner.

Steps

STEP 1

Cut the pork into long strips, about 2 to 3 inches thick

STEP 2

In a large bowl, combine the pouch of Tangy BBQ sauce with the sesame oil, Mirin, and soy sauce

STEP 3

Reserve about ¼ cup of the marinade and set it aside in the fridge. Rub the pork with the rest of the marinade, cover, and refrigerate overnight

STEP 4

When it's time to cook the pork, preheat your oven to 475°F with a rack positioned in the upper third of the oven

STEP 5

Pour about 1 cup of water into a sheet pan lined with parchment and fitted with a baking rack. Lay the pork slices on the baking rack, leaving space in between them

STEP 6

Roast for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375°F and roast for another 15 minutes, then flip the pork. Roast for another 15 minutes then pour the reserved marinade over the pork and roast for a final 10 minutes

STEP 7

If you want a crispy top, turn the broiler on for 3-5 minutes. Serve over rice if desired
