This fun and easy fried shrimp recipe is a banger!

Harissa Bang Bang Shrimp

This super easy fried shrimp is all of the things! Spicy, creamy, crispy, quick! We love how easily it comes together to make the perfect party appetizer or snack. You can also serve this over seasoned grits, a big bowl of greens, or your favorite sides to make this a heartier meal.

Chef Tip: If you can find fresh shrimp, it’s ideal for a recipe like this, where the shrimp is the star. If buying frozen, make sure it’s not already cooked!

Ingredients

Neutral oil for deep frying

½ cup mayonnaise

Haven’s Kitchen Zippy Chili Harissa

1 Lb. shrimp, peeled and deveined

Buttermilk

1 cup Cornstarch

Salt

1 Tbsp. smoked paprika

3-4 scallions, sliced

1 lemon

Steps

STEP 1

Set up a landing station next to the stove with a sheet pan lined with paper towels or a rack

STEP 2

In a medium saucepot, over medium-high heat, pour in oil to about 2" up the side of the pot. If you're using a thermometer, your oil should be at a temperature of 375°F

STEP 3

In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and ½ a pouch of the Harissa and set aside

STEP 4

In a large bowl, cover the shrimp with buttermilk and let it sit. In another small bowl, combine cornstarch with the salt and the paprika.

STEP 5

Once you are ready to fry, drain the shrimp and shake off any excess buttermilk. Coat the shrimp in the seasoned cornstarch mixture, then fry them for 1 minute, or until they are cooked through and look golden brown. Remove and drain the shrimp on the landing station.

STEP 6

Toss the shrimp with the Harissa bang bang sauce and garnish with the scallions and the zest of a lemon. Serve immediately
