Cooking 101
Everything you need to know to make the staple charcuterie board. An easy way to serve up snacks when hosting, no matter how big or small your get-together is.
Chef tip: A good rule of thumb is to have 3oz each of meat and cheese per person as an appetizer. Double it if you're serving this up as an entrée.
For the compound chimichurri butter:
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
Haven’s Kitchen Herby Chimichurri
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Flaky salt, to taste
For the charcuterie board:
3 types of cheese: Something tangy, something simple, and something soft
2-3 types of cured meat
Crackers or bread- We like the Olive Oil & Sea Salt Gourmet Crackers from Milton's
Spreads: Butter, honey or jam
Seasonal berries or fruits
Optional: Stemmed herbs, dried fruit, and nuts
Stir together all ingredients in a medium bowl until combined. Garnish with additional flakey sea salt and serve.
Start with your focal points. Place your compound butter in a bowl on a serving platter of your choice— we like to use a cutting board! If you're adding some spreads, add those into a bowl now too, and place them on your board. If you're opting to add large fruit to your board, like pomegranate, add that here as well.
If you're adding cheese, cut your assortment and place each type of cheese somewhere on your board. We like to have them stem from any of our focal points, usually in river shapes.
Bring in the meats! Place your cuts near your cheese sections. For placement, you can fold them over, place them as little clumps, or roll them up.
Bring on the crackers or bread! We like to take a stack of crackers, like the Olive Oil & Sea Salt Gourmet Crackers from Milton's, and snake them throughout the board in between our meats/cheeses.
Add in some freshness! Break up the savory flavors with some seasonal berries of your choice and place them in various pockets of the board.
Abundance time! You want your board to look full and bountiful, so use smaller items like stemmed herbs, dried fruit, and nuts to fill in small gaps on your board.
