Sticky Sesame Miso Drumsticks with Celery Slaw

Sweet and salty chicken drumsticks make a perfect partner to a super simple celery and apple slaw. All the flavors and textures here just work really well together. And, we're guessing you've got most of the ingredients in the kitchen right now.

Chef's Tip: You can cut the apple and keep it from browning by storing it in a bowl of cool water with some of the lime squeezed in. Then, when you're ready to eat, toss the slaw quickly and keep all the crunch and pep.


  • 8-10 chicken drumsticks

  • Cooking oil

  • Salt

  • Haven's Kitchen Gingery Miso Sauce

  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup

  • Soy sauce

  • 3-4 stalks of celery, cut into matchsticks

  • 2 crisp apples, cut into matchsticks

  • Lime

  • Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced


Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F. Temper the chicken, then toss with a drizzle of oil and salt. Lay the drumsticks out on a baking sheet lined with a rack and roast for 35-40 minutes. The temperature of the chicken should be 165°F and the skin should be nice and crispy

Step 2

Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk together ½ pouch of Gingery Miso with the honey and a few dashes of soy sauce

Step 3

Make the slaw by combining the celery and apples with a small drizzle of oil, salt and a squeeze of lime

Step 4

When the chicken is out of the oven, immediately toss in the gingery sauce. Then garnish with sesame seeds and scallions. Serve the drumsticks with the slaw
